ABT Tunes VW's Small Engine Range

ABT is a Bavarian Tuner probably best known for producing performance modifications that not only increase the performance but also improve fuel consumption. Kits like the ones made for the Mk 5 Golf GTI clearly showed that the company can improve on a an already great factory design.

ABT has finished work on the current small capacity engine range of Volkswagen Auto Group, delivering spectacular results. VW/Audi's 1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI and 1.6 TDI engines have all been tinkered with by the tuner.

First in line, VW/Audi’s 1.2-liter TSI has received an increase of 35 hp, taking it from 105 hp (77 kW) to 140 hp (103 kW). This remap is available for engines in the Volkswagen Polo, Golf, Scirocco and Seat‘s Ibiza.

As for the 1.4-liter engine in cars like the Audi A3 or Skoda Superb, the ABT 1.4 TSI custom ECU brings power from 125 or 122 hp (92 or 90kW) to 160 hp (118 kW). The turbocharged-supercharged 1.4-liter engine in the Polo GTI and Ibiza Cupra have been tweaked to produce 210 hp (154 kW), which is impressive considering the current generation of Golf GTI with a 2.0-liter engine produces the same amount of power.

The new generation of small diesel engines now have their power increased to either 116 or 125 HP (85 or 92 kW), depending on the engine version. The ABT 1.6 TDI power kit works for the Golf, Polo, Eos, Roomster, A1 and the A3.

All engines thus now produce power equivalent to that next in size.

“It is a matter of fact that all of the engines with ABT POWER technology performance improvements are long-lasting, reliable and fully compatible with everyday use,” stated the Bavarian customizer’s press release. Fact is, given ABT’s track record, we can believe them.
