We love the 2.5-liter turbo engine made by Audi, not because it wins all those awards, but because of the soundtrack. That's why every time a tuning company reveals something for the 5-banger, we jump at the opportunity to share it.
German specialist shop ABT Sportsline previously showed its version of the RS Q3 at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March that year. Over a year and a half later, the updated version has arrived.
The press release that's currently available is in German. However, we only need to look at two numbers: 410 PS and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque. What do they mean? Only that ABT has gotten lazy.
Last year, Audi introduced an updated version of the RS Q3 that had more power (340 from 310 PS) and shorter gears. However, the new engine map from ABT gives you exactly the same results as the old tuning project. So even though the performance crossover looks new, it's not faster than it was before.
Unfortunately, Audi decided against bringing this model to the US, which means the GLA 45 AMG goes uncontested. That's a shame, especially now that ABT goodies are also available in America. We have no performance numbers from ABT, but Audi assures us its stock car gets from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds before reaching its limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The good news is the company also makes a power box for the 2.0 TFSI that's installed on every Q3 in the US.
Besides the updated engine and its adjacent quad exhaust system, ABT attacked the RS Q3 with a predictable array of tuning weapons. These include new wheels that are 21-inch, matte black and shod in 255/30 R21 tires.
The front end looks untouched, but a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser changes the appearance of the rear. There isn't anything going on inside the car, but ABT assures us that custom floor mats and enhanced upholstery can be fitted.
Don't get us wrong, having 410 PS in a crossover this size is awesome, but most of it is down to Audi's work, not ABT's tuning magic.
