Abt Redevelop New Scirocco Inside Out

When Volkswagen released its brand new Scirocco earlier this year, most German tuners out there were already drooling at the idea of getting their hands on that new Wolfsburg-based model. And the car's latest tuned variants are proof enough! Less than seven months after Scirocco's official launch at the Geneva Auto Show, both Oettinger and Abt released some new customization programs for this hot new hatchback.

The exterior kit from Abt features some pretty impressive visual updates, including an aggressive front bumper, a redesigned front grille and a completely new rear fascia. The 4-pipe rear muffler is now mounted diagonally, while car's rear wing also features a very dynamic look. Other Abt details that add to car's sporty profile are the lower ground clearance (by almost 30 milimeters), side & rear skirt elements and 19-inch AR alloys (18- and 20-inch alloys are also available, together with fitting tires and wheel spacers).

The German tuner also did some serious engine remapping for the new Scirocco, giving its initial 1.4 TSI unit a 40-hp boost (to approximately 200 hp). Also improved was the model's 2.0 TDI engine, now offering power ratings of up to 170 hp, as compared to the initial 130 hp in the new generation model.

Also, in order to keep up with the progress made by rivals Oettinger on the 2.0 TDI unit – which previously managed to squeeze a massive 240 hp from the 2.0 TDI powerplant – Abt is also planning to launch a 3rd engine update that will allegedly deliver around 240 hp.

Car's braking system was completely redeveloped to fit Scirocco's new profile (in other words, comply with engine's power boost), including wider, 345-in-diameter brake pads. Abt also customized its new 'product' with new springs built in-house for a more suitable suspension to car's on-road performances.

The Abt Scirocco will be available for purchase starting January 2009 (hopefully, the German manufacturer will also have developed the 2.0 TDI engine by then). For those of you who are wondering how much this impressive, sleek-designed compact sports coupe will cost with the body kit and engine updates incorporated, the overall purchase price will start from 6000 Euros and even reach 10,000 Euros for the top variant.
