Last week, I saw a number of stories across the web suggesting this was a brand new tuning pack for the VW Beetle from German tuning firm ABT. However, I knew ABT is usually the first to tune a new VW, the new Bug being a 2012 model, plus there already was a previous story with the exact same picture dating back to August 3rd, 2012.
So, what this actually is is an updated tuning package from ABT for the Beetle, which gives you more configuration options for a broader array of engines and cosmetic customization tastes.
Starting with the tasty parts, the engines the biggest output unit, the 2.0 TSI, goes from 200 PS to 240 PS. Torque is also improved to 340 Nm, which should improve the performance of the car significantly. Further down the range, thins become a bit more impressive, the 1.4-liter TSI unleashes its full potential. The Twincharger goes from 160 PS to 210 PS and 280 Nm of torque, basically GTI performance from a much smaller engine. But perhaps the biggest change takes place at the bottom of the range. The smallest engine you can have with the Beetle, the 1.2 TSI, is pushed from 105 PS to 140 PS and from 170 Nm to 220 Nm of torque.
If you've the proud penny-pinching owner of a diesel Beetle, know that ABT can tune the 1.6 TDI from 105 PS to 125 PS and the 2.0 TDI from 140 PS to 170 PS.
On the cosmetic side, the ABT Beetle gets an aero body kit that brings a front spoiler, rear skirt, side skirts, plus available CR, DR and ER-C wheels in 18- to 20-inch sizes. ABT couldn't ruin the Beetle with one of their creepy grilles, but they have fitted "eyelids" for the headlights.
