German tuner ABT Sportsline has unveiled its Formula E all-electric race car at the Geneva Motor Show. Previewed last November, when the Bavarian specialist announced it has joined the new series, the single-seater will be displayed alongside the modified Audi RS6-R and the Audi RS Q3 over the next ten days.
ABT, the seventh team to join the Formula E championship, will be campaigning two cars under the “Audi Sport ABT Formula-E Team”. The Germans revealed that the team could benefit from Audi Motorsport’s factory driver lineup “if required”, but has yet to announced who will be man-handling its all-electric racers.
The inaugural Formula E season will commence on September 2014 and will end on June 2015, after ten events held in countries such as China, Malaysia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the United States, Monaco, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Nine teams will compete in the new series alongside ABT Sportsline - Venturi Grand Prix, Virgin Racing, Drayson Racing, e.dams, Andretti Autosport, Dragon Racing, China Racing, Super Aguri and Mahindra.
All teams will be using Spark-Renault SRT_01E single-seaters fitted with engines, transmission and electronics developed by Formula One team McLaren. 24 drivers are currently among Formula E “Drivers’ Club”, including former F1 pilots Jaime Alguersuari, Sebastien Bourdais, Narain Karthikeyan, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Bruno Senna, Sebastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi.
