The Geneva Auto Show, which opens at the beginning of March, will witness the introduction of yet another wacky concept created by the students of the Turin-based IED school. Called Scorp-Ion, the electric vehicle concept is intended as an Abarth-design vehicle of the future. With only a few days left before Geneva opens its doors, IED released a set of more comprehensive images of the concept. As said, the Scorp-Ion is an electric vehicle, meant for use in urban areas. It packs a lithium-Ion battery pack placed behind the seats and four in-heel electric motors, used to propel the body of the vehicle (4,010 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, 1,1192 mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,350 mm) for an undisclosed number of kilometers. The Scorp-Ion is not the first IED project to make it on the Geneva show's floor. For the past few years, the crazy concepts created by the students of the school have joined the big names of the industry at the event and perhaps even influenced the design of some of the models we see on the roads today. “It’s always exciting and also a source of a particular apprehension to know that our school participates each year at the Geneva Motor Show without having a definitive vision, from the outset, of the project we will present; a vision that is gradually refined and takes shape once the concept has been completed by the students,” said Cesar Mendoza, IED director. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
