An abandoned Volvo dealership in Belgium looks like a time capsule, with untouched Volvo 240 cars still sheltered inside. Even more bizarre is that the owner repeatedly turned down offers to buy the vintage boxy sedans.
According to a Facebook post, the former Volvo dealership was integrated with a gas station which is also closed, although the shop next to it is still in business. Throughout the years, people stopped and wondered and talked to the shop owner, as revealed by social media posts dating as far back as 2012.

In one of the more recent posts, Paul Drury offers a possible explanation. According to his Facebook post, the bank closed the dealership at some point. If that’s the case, the cars and the dealership may now be owned by the bank, which never proceeded to liquidate the assets. This could also explain why nobody was able to convince the former owner to sell any of the vehicles stored inside.

According to a 2012 post on Flickr, the abandoned cars in and around the dealership were there at least from 2006. There used to be many more Volvos on the premises, as proven by Google Street View snapshots taken in different years. One user signed Erik M chimed in and said the yard was cleared in 2014 by the owner’s son, although the cars inside the showroom are still there today. There’s no information on what happened to the vehicles in the yard.

About the Volvos in the showroom, the pictures show four 240, including one in U.S. specifications. One of them appears full of Saab and Volvo brochures, while more stuff is probably tucked behind the cars. This looks like a tiny time capsule, much to the annoyance of Volvo fans who want those 240s driving as soon as possible.
