Abandoned cars always have a sad story to tell, but when the vehicle in question is a Nissan 240Z, the whole ordeal turns even worse. You don’t even have to take our word on this, as the adjacent image gallery shows a Fairlady Z that has lost its shine and is now unresting in peace on American soil.
The Datsun 240Z (the sportscar was sold under this label in the US) is in a rather advanced state of decay, with both the exterior and the interior showing heavy time battle scars.

As you can see in the pictures, the car has already been resprayed before being left to be devoured by the rust. Actually, we’re not sure which is in a worse state, the exterior or the cabin.

There are no details to accompany the pictures. Still, judging by the fact that the sportscar is sharing the driveway with what appears to be a functional Ford F-150, this looks like that kind of project the owner has put on an indefinite delay.

The story of the 370Z’s ancestor

Back in the late 60s when the Z was conceived, Japanese cars were basically clones and this was Nissan trying its hand at the GT game played by the British and Italian roadsters.

In the process of creating the Fairlady Z, Nissan tried to collaborate with Yamaha, but the tie-up never worked and the bike maker ended up joining forces with Toyota for the 2000GT.

The Japanese got things right and the bouquet of the Z mixed styling with performance in a manner that captivated American customers - during the first three years of market presence, Nissan’s sportscar managed to convince between 40,000 and 50,000 customers per year.

Fast-forwarding to the present day, the Z is starting to lose its shine, offering a tech package that seems outdated compared to certain rivals.

The 370Z is approaching the end of its lifespan and the next generation is expected to bring quite a change, all under the downsizing sign. Nissan is expected to show us a concept next year.
