Released in theaters about a week ago, the Need for Speed film, which is an adaptation of the highly popular series of Need for Speed video games by Electronic Arts, was the latest car-packed action movie to hit the big screen.
Packed with special effects and high speed road racing footage, the movie featured an array of powerful and fast vehicles, including the Bugatti Veyron SS, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento or the McLaren P1.

However, the hero car role wasn’t assigned to any of these uber-fast vehicles. DreamWorks decided that the main four-wheeled “character” should be a Ford Mustang.

Sure, it’s not just any Ford Mustang, but some of you have probably wondered by a musclecar and not something that could break the sound barrier. Well, actor Aaron Paul, who played Tobey Marshall in the movie, has provided us with a great answer in Ford’s brand new “casting of Hero Mustang” video.

According to him, “the Mustang is a beast. You think that a Mustang is fast, but it’s so much faster that you would ever think. This hero Mustang has such balls to it, it’s pretty wild.”

In addition, movie director Scott Waugh explains that the Mustang was chosen as the main vehicle because of its true American racing heritage and its lasting appeal.

Custom built for the film, the “Need for Speed” Mustang was fitted with a widebody kit, unique Forgiato 22-inch alloy wheels, a twin-snorkel hood and angle-eye fog lamps. Now that the movie has debuted around the world, the vehicle will be auctioned for charity by Barrett-Jackson in Florida on April 12, on the same day the Mustang celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The musclecar will be offered at no reserve and proceeds will be donated to the Henry Ford Health System, a non-profit organization founded by Henry Ford himself in 1915.
