a-workx is a Bavarian-based tuning company that wants to see what happens when its decades of experience in motorsport series like the FIA GT Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup and ADAC GT Masters are used for road cars. In fact, the aftermaket developer knows the result very well, but just like to pretend it doesn’t, so that it has to roll out a new project every time.
This time, a-works is giving us the BMW M3 460cs. The 460cs (Club Sport) is a E92 M3 project that aims to outperform the M3 GTS.
The story starts under the hood, where the 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 gets a-workx camshafts, a sports air filter, carbon fibre air box and Akrapovic Evolution titanium exhaust, which is 24 kg lighter than the factory system, as well as remapped ECU. The result is an overall power boost of 40 hp, with the overall 460 hp being sent to the road via a Drexler limited slip differential.
The extra muscle is handled with the help of a KW Clubsport-spec suspension, a set of 19-inch ATS Superlight rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 235/35Z and 265/30Z rubber, which are 15 kg lighter than the stock ones.
As for the stopping power, this comes from a MOV ‘IT CER ceramic brake system that uses two-piece discs (380×40 mm front and 380×32 mm rear) gripped by mono-block calipers (6-piston and 4-piston rear) and also brings the weight down by 12 kg.
The 460cs can play the 0 to 62 mph game in a brief 4.1 seconds (down from 4.8 seconds), while the 0 to 124 mph (200 km/h) sprint takes 13.2 seconds (down from 15.7). The vehicle was put through its paces on Germany’s Hockenheim Short, posting a lap time of 1:11.9, - six tenths faster than the BMW M3 GTS.
And the story doesn’t end here, as a-works also offers a 600 hp supercharger option...
