They say great ideas start of simple things and it seems the 21st century will revolve around just that. Until electric vehicles become cheap enough to be used as a daily driver by most of us, the best urban transportation remains the one powered by our own legs. At least that is what a Hungarian industrial designer thinks, so he created the prototype of a scooter one can actually wear as a belt.
Imagine a world where the streets would be that crowded only a very small vehicle will fit through. Oh, wait, that is already happening.

Good. Now, imagine that you could wear the vehicle whenever you're not using it. Hungarian industrial designer Adam Torok believes the most efficient vehicles that urban travelers can use to get somewhere fast are those powered by the leg. The thing is, he claims these scooters should be designed as something people can store properly.

It's a fashion asset

A vast range of methods has been developed in recent years but these will all become obsolete if the vehicle is developed as something you could cary along. He believes a device you can wear as part of your clothing is the solution. His prototype is not quite the perfect good looking fashion asset, but it will get there (maybe).

Just to set an example, Torok used a piece of curved wood as the basis for the scooter, which is tough enough to hold the rider’s weigh and still comfortable enough to wear. It would seem the designer thought of a segmented system for the vertical handlebars which allows them to become rigid when the inner strap is tightened, but flexible when loosened.

The fellow is not there yet, considering he needs to find a way to actually make this scooter/belt look good on the person who’s wearing it, but he did have quite the positive feedback so far.

Who knows, maybe that is the next step in designing scooters...
