Scandinavians are a tough breed and have been known to be so since ancient times. Strong men with tough skin and beards, sailing into the storm and believing in gods like Odin and Thor, praying to them so that the mighty Kraken won’t surface from the murky depths and swallow their boats.
Those days are long gone, but their tough spirit remained almost the same. Probably because of the harsh environment they inhabit. Their driving schools won’t let you take your license without knowing how to drive like a rally pilot on the snow and they also put a big price on respect and personal space, so you may want to behave when visiting.

However, their inner fire that can be put out through sailing remained unchanged, something that you can see today as the Volvo Ocean Race. It began in 1973 and it remained world biggest round-the-world yacht race, gathering extraordinary people and pushing them to the limits, in conditions few can imagine.

With the occasion of its 40th Ocean Race anniversary, Volvo has released its upgraded three most important vehicles in the range - the S60 sedan, V60 station wagon and the XC60 CUV.

The new Volvo models also reached Romania recently, where they’ve been received with feast and a touch of Scandinavian spirit - Volvo catamarans for everyone who wanted to get a glimpse of how the Ocean Race feels. Of course, these ones were mere midgets compared to the real ocean-going ones and you could try them only on the calm lake where the ceremony was held in Bucharest. Still, a great experience to let off some steam on a hot August day.

The three Volvo models were stunning in the sunset light - sleek sleepy beasts waiting in the lot for the traffic to calm down and the city to fall into the afternoon numbness so they can be put to the test. Their design got more refined, organic-like, with few straight edges and no more double headlights. Their chassis offer three settings - Touring, Four-C and Dynamic. Key features include City Safety, Cross Traffic Alert, Road Sign information, paddle shifters and Active High Beam Control.
