Being on an upward trend in terms of car sales for the past few years, South Korean manufacturer Kia is planning to make the best out of the public’s craving for compact SUVs with the launch of a brand new name in the segment later this year.
Kia currently has a good number of SUVs in its portfolio, but none that can be considered small and global at the same time. With the new vehicle, the carmaker plans to kill two birds with one stone and launch a global compact SUV meant for the millennial generation.
At the beginning of the week, the carmaker released the first two images showing the car’s front and rear. Based on the SP Signature, a model it showed for the first time at the Delhi Auto Show in India in 2018.
The car depicted in these sketches seems to borrow a lot from that concept, including the design of the LED headlamps. These elements, fitted with a three-dimensional graphic and a diamond pattern, extend until they nearly touch each other over the radiator grille.
There’s no word yet on what will make the car tick, but Kia’s styling head, Byung Chul Juh, said the “robust design” will be matched by “a wide range of features and technologies that are universally suited to younger buyers in markets around the world.”
That promise extends even further with the claim that the new SUV will be unrivaled in its segment.
There’s no official release date for the model, but Kia did say the car will become available by the end of the year, at first in the home market of South Korea and later in other parts of the world.
The car has no official name yet, but industry rumors point to the new SUV being called Tusker. More details are likely to surface soon.
