The Mercedes-Benz Unimog is arguably one of the most badass off-road vehicles on the planet right now, and maybe even in history.
Its portal axles and differential locks can pretty much make it a go-anywhere vehicle if supplied with enough fuel and the appropriate tires.
Incidentally (or not), a Mercedes-Benz Unimog 1300 L (model series 435) from 1986 was the vehicle of choice for a couple who decided to undertake a protracted honeymoon trip around the world.
“If a vehicle is to take us to the roof of the world, it has to be a Unimog” the two said, but rest assured this isn't your average Unimog.
With a fuel tank that can carry no less than 540 liters, a water tank that can be filled with 180 liters of fresh water and a solar power supply, the “Glaarkshouse” - as the couple nicknamed the 'Mog – is pretty much like a mobile home.
The car's name is actually a combination of the two swashbucklers' surnames – Glas and Parks – the wife's maiden name.
Their trip started in April of last year, and has so far lead Peter and Jennifer Glas through south-eastern Europe, the Anatolian highlands, the sand dunes of Dash-e-Kavier in Iran, Persia, Oman and India.
The couple and their faithful Unimog will soon be moving on to Nepal, Tibet, China and Mongolia. For more information about their route and spectacular journey you can visit www.glaarkshouse.com.
