Old-school chopper purists might frown in contempt, but Brad Baker’s electric retro machine spells infinite style. Baptized the “Baker”, this intriguing machine was introduced at the recent One Motorcycle show in Portland, OR.
Works Electric co-founder Brad Baker has been building e-bikes for some time now and he seems to get better and better at this. The Baker is a proper custom chopper, with a bespoke frame made in-house and painted in a nifty, discreet metal flake livery, with the retro-approved springer fork, and sprung custom leather seat. It’s really hard to be more retro than using a hardtail frame and springer suspension, and loading mid-sized apehagers atop the steering neck makes things even better.

The bike is powered by a 6.12-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, which can be recharged in 6 hours using the on-board 1.1 kW charger. Juice flows into a ram air cooled 70 hp AC induction motor which is good for some 85 lb-ft (115 Nm) of torque. Larger motors are also available: if the 110 mph (17 km/h) the current one is not enough, Brad Baker can build you am 120 hp, 140 mph (225 km/h) bike.

Baker is valued around $25,000 (€18,150), and other machines Portland’s Works Electric could build for you, including street trackers or racers could run as high as $35k (€25,400). And besides the dough, you also need the guts to face your v-twin chopper buddies, but that’s another story.
