A-Class, B-Class And CLA Are The Segment's Leading Fuel Sippers Now

Starting with March 2014, no less than seven new versions of the A-class, B-Class and the CLA will offer fuel savings of up to seven percent compared with each of their predecessors built until then.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, for example, is now setting the standard in its segment with a combined fuel consumption of just 5.4 liters per 100 km (43.6 mpg), figures that have been achieved via a lean-burn process with stratified-charge operation.

As some of you know, the A 200 CDI has had its 1.8-liter engine replaced by an Euro VI-compliant 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel that retains its predecessor's output of 136 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb ft) of torque while offering a better fuel consumption.

All the top diesel engines in the A 220 CDI, B 220 CDI and CLA 220 CDI have been revamped in terms of fuel consumption as well, with the performance figures remaining the same.

The first all-wheel drive diesel models on the Mercedes-Benz MFA (Modular Front Architecture) are the A 200 CDI 4Matic and the A 220 CDI 4Matic, providing more traction with the same class-leading low fuel consumption.
