When ordinary people hear about France, the first things that come to their minds are perfumes, Eiffel Tower, cheese or wines. Car enthusiasts, on the other hand, think about France’s beautiful car culture. This 1963 Facel Vega Facel II that is going to be auctioned in Paris on February 3, 2016, by RM Sotheby’s, has the French high style written all over it.
This piece of automotive art is built by one of France’s most famous manufacturers in the Jet Age and combines American performance with ultramodern French style.

The car is powered by a 383 cubic inch Chrysler V8 engine pushing 355 horsepower through a three-speed Chrysler TorqueFlite automatic transmission. It also has independent front suspension and solid rear axle with leaf springs and four-wheel disc brakes.

The Facel II goes from 0 to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 134 mph. These are not impressive figures, but bear in mind that you will travel in extreme luxury.

Only 180 examples were made between 1962 and 1964, and because of its beautiful lines and the luxurious interior, it rapidly became one of the most desirable cars from the 1960s.

This particular Facel II has chassis number HK2 B 171 and was the factory show car at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. The car was bought right from the stand and remained in the same family ever since.

According to RM Sotheby's, the car has been well preserved, and the metallic blue finish exterior, as well as the tan leather interior, is in pristine overall condition. The price is not being specified yet but considering that it has only 20,601 miles on the odometer and few Facel IIs are in such original condition, we can predict a six-figure sum.

Throughout the years, the Facel Vega Facel II model has been in the car collections of some famous figures such as Pablo Picasso, Ava Gardner, Christian Dior, Stirling Moss, Dean Martin, Fred Astaire, the Shah of Persia, or Frank Sinatra.
