A 45 AMG Gets Tested by OptionAuto

Unfortunately, the following video is more of a teaser than a full driving review, but the WRC sounds made by the M133 engine in the second part are more than enough to make anyone realize just how special this car really is.

Sure, the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG is the smallest AMG in history and, compared to the V8 and V12 monsters that the nutty engineers from Affalterbach have accustomed us with, it only has a four-cylinder engine.

If you get past the “there's no replacement for displacement prejudice” you will probably arrive at the conclusion that the two-liter four pot engine in the A 45 AMG is just as bonkers as any other AMG mill from the past few years, if not even more from some points of view.

First of all, the AMG peeps managed to squeeze no less than 360 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque from just two liters of displacement. Yeah, it's been turbocharged to hell, but there's no other way to offer V8 power with econobox fuel economy unless you go hybrid.

Second of all, the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds with the help of the launch control function of the 7-speed dual clutch transmission and the 4Matic all-wheel drive system. What more could you ever want from what is currently the hottest hatch of them all?
