996 Porsche 911 Widebody: What If RWB Started Building Water-Cooled Porsches?

When it comes to Porsche 911 generations, the 996 is perhaps the most troubled one. Having marked the switch to water-cooled engines, the Neunelfer from two generations ago has offended quite a high number of purists back in its day.
Tech debates aside, the 996 has split opinions over its headlight designs, which is why we see few of these Zuffenhausen machines used for extreme, eye-catching projects.

Truth be told, enthusiasts prefer to work on newer 997 or even 991s (the current generation), or go for the older air-cooled stuff, such as the 964 and the 930 generations that make up the starting point of Rauh-Welt Begriff (RWB) builds.

Well, today we're here to give the 996's appearance the credit it deserves. Sure, you can always do that by turning to one of the special models the Germans built, from the GT3 to the GT1 racing monster.

However, we wanted to show you what can be done with a not-so-berserk 911, so we brought along the image above.

The pic, which comes from Jonsibal, allows us to see a 996 that has gone down the widebody route, while gaining a massive, motorsport-like rear wing in the process.

In fact, since we mentioned RWB projects above, we'll go ahead and tell you that, if the Japanese tuner ever decided to also include the 996 in its portfolio, we'd probably end up with something pretty close to what we see here.

With Akira Nakai, the man behind the project, taking the creation process further and further these days, we never know what to expect.

Then again, with RWB kits gaining more popularity than ever these days, a more likely possibility would be for another aftermarket developer to step in and take advantage of the 911 widebody trend. After all, the beefy fender fetish Japanese tuners have has already given birth to other now-famous tuners, such as Liberty Walk.
