Ever since Porsche unleashed the 2020 911 at the Los Angeles Auto Show last month, we've been talking about the expanded Neunelfer family. So far, only the Carrera S and Carrera 4S have landed, but we'll remind you the 911 range holds over twenty derivatives and that's without counting the racecars.
Well, the time has come to focus on the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. And we want to start by admitting this is a bit early, since, based on the usual launch calendar, the 3RS shouldn't be presented sooner than 2020 or 2021.
Then again, we've brought along a rendering of the Rennsport Neunelfer, one that seems to do a good job at portraying the track special - we must thank X-Tomi Design for the pixel play sitting before us.
This render obviously uses the eight-generation model as a base, adding many elements from the current GT3 RS. And we're referring to the uber-light magnesium wheels, the generous rear wing, the rear fender air intakes, the front fender air extractors and the NACA ducts on the frunk lid. Oh, and let's not forget the full bucket seats.
Nevertheless, the Weissach Package, which made its debut on the 991.2 GT3 RS, is missing, hence the absence of clear-coat carbon on the top section of the car.
The fron apron mixes the side elements of the air intakes (991/2) with the kind of grille we've seen on long-roof Porsches.
However, with Porsche introducing more aggressive aerodynamics for the 992 Carrera S (larger active rear wing), as well as for the prototypes of the 992 GT3 and 992 Turbo, we could see the next 3RS' styling becoming fiercer.
On the powertrain front, a prototype of the 992 GT3 has already shown that the naturally aspirated flat-six is here to stay. So we're expecting the new 911 GT3 RS to preserve the atmospheric tradition.
And while the 2020/2021 GT3 will continue to offer a manual as an option, the Rennsport model will probably come in PDK form once again.
