I recently spent a bit of time with a group of sportscar/supercar customers, with one of them explaining how eager he was to get his hands on a 992 GT3. He might have to do a bit of waiting though, since he's looking for a Paint To Sample attire for the car. Meanwhile, Zuffenhausen engineers are out there, completing the development of the new GT3 and we are now here to zoom in this.
Thanks to the piece of spy footage at the bottom of the page, we get to see the GT Division animal doing its thing at the Nurburgring.
As any Porschephile knows, the soundtrack of such an experience is the one that dominates. Thankfully, the German carmaker has kept the naturally aspirated flat-six alive, as confirmed by prototype sightings such as this one.
With the Germans having recently introduced an all-new N/A boxer based on the TT 3.0-liter unit of the 992 Carrera S (think: 718 GT4), the heart of the new GT3 might be a similar development.
Of course, while the new GT4 delivers 420 hp, you can expect the muscle number of the rear-engined animal to sit north of 500 hp.
The new 8-speed PDK will obviously get a GT3 tweak, but the six-speed manual will also make a comeback.
We must also consider elements such as the wider tracks of the 992, along with the aggressive aero update - sure, that rear wing will look different while the cover elements are off, but the extra downforce role is obvious.
Given all of the above, you can expect the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 to become a member of the sub-7 Nurburgring club. This should also be true for the upcoming 992 Turbo. In fact, you can see the two running together, as mentioned in the title, at the 2:28 point of the video below.
Returning to the waiting time mentioned in the intro, the Turbo should land by the end of the year, but we might have to see the calendar switching to 2020 for the debut of the fresh GT3.
