911 GT3 PDK Flat Out at Targa Tasmania Reminds Us How Awesome This Porsche Is

With Porsche delivering more and more extreme Neunelfer derivatives, such as the GT3 RS or the normal-911-folks-can't-have-it 911 R, many people tend to overlook the outstanding capabilities of the GT3 (we refuse to call it "standard").
Nevertheless, the naturally aspirated piece of Zuffenahsuen engineering continues to prove its powers with every possible occasion. The most recent example of this comes from last week's Targa Tasmania rally, which saw a 991 GT3 going flat out on the Australian island's roads.

The piece of footage below shows the kind of performance driving the GT3 allows. Unlike other Targa Tasmania 2016 drivers, who enjoyed pulling all sorts of stunts, such as taking a Lamborghini Huracan offroading, Matt Close and Cameron Reeves went for the surgical type of driving.

Speaking of which, the team received a Modern Class award, which means their rush paid out. No expense was spared in the fight against the chronograph (no Chrono Sports package pun intended) and, if you listen closely, you'll notice the GT3 scrapping its flat belly against the Aussie tarmac in the clip - no, this isn't the only occasion on which it becomes obvious that the Neunelfer wasn't spared in the process of making it to the top of the list.

Speaking of the 911 GT3, the Porsche website reveals an interesting aspect here - this 911 model has currently been removed from the list, which means you can't configure one.

The most likely explanation here is that Porsche is preparing to introduce the 991.2 incarnation of the GT3. Even so, the timing for the move seems a little early and it's not like they removed it because it was sold out (following this logic, the 911 R shouldn't have appeared on the website in the first place).

Nevertheless, since the revamped GT3 is rumored to bring back the clutch pedal as an option, it can't arrive soon enough.
