911 Call: Runaway Toyota Prius

Unfortunately, reports concerning the stuck accelerator pedal on various Toyota models keep coming and although the Japanese manufacturer says its recall goes according to the plan, new incidents occur all over the world. A few days ago, we told you about a runaway Prius on the San Diego highway that got its pedal stuck at 94 mph (151 km/h).

New information emerged today when FoxNewsChannel revealed the 911 call of the driver who finally managed to bring the vehicle to a halt with the help of the police.

We're not going to comment too much on the video, but it appears that 911 operators are starting to get used to this kind of emergency calls. And that's as useful as we could get, taking into account that there are millions of cars affected by the problem.

As for the case itself, the Prius driver should consider himself lucky since he managed, with the help of the police officers, to stop the car. But here's Toyota's official explanation on the problem:

“This afternoon (Monday, March 8), Toyota learned of a report that a California Highway Patrol (CHP) unit was dispatched in response to a 911 call from a motorist driving a Prius on Interstate 8 in San Diego County who said the accelerator pedal was stuck. The report states that the CHP unit slowed in front of the vehicle and acted as a brake to bring it to a stop. Toyota has dispatched a field technical specialist to San Diego to investigate the report and offer assistance.”
