If you followed our website, you might have found out that the guys over at Evolution Performance put a lot of effort and more than a year’s hard work in their 8-second quarter mile running 2013 Shelby GT500. And though the musclecar and the drag strips were basically invented by US enthusiasts, it doesn’t mean that all ridiculously-powered machines must wear an American badge.
In fact, it doesn’t even have to be moved by a V8 powerplant. To further prove this point, a certain Toyota owner packed up his Mk3 Celica Supra with more than 900 horsepower. Still sporting the DOHC inline six-cylinder engine received from the Japanese factory more than 20 years ago, the Supra was enhanced by a huge turbocharger, custom intake and a couple of nitrous oxide tanks.
While it may surprise a few people, this Japanese dragster managed to pull an amazing 8-second run at the annual Bayou Drag contest at Hennessey’s quarter mile strip. Now scroll below to see it for yourselves, and be sure to pay attention to the 10-second pickup truck on right lane as well.
