900 HP Toyota MR2 Goes All Need For Speed in Arizona Street Racing

That is where an extreme MR2 decided to go all out, with the sportscar's adventure appearing to come straight from the Need For Speed series. Instead of turning to a computer, though, the owner decided to put his 900 hp Toyota to work on the road, engaging in all sort of street racing scenarios.

When you drive such a car, there will be a lot of street racers ready to show you who's boss, so finding opponents was the last thing the driver had to worry about. From the usual hyper-boosted Evo to a Suzuki GSX-R 1000, this Toyota battled it out with plenty of machines once night fell.

While JDM aficionados don't seem to be as upset as muscle guys when it comes to builds that use parts coming from rival automakers, we don't think this MR2 is entirely safe when it comes to people pointing their fingers at it. That's because motivation comes from a Honda K20 engine. While 900 horses might seem like an absurd output for a turbo four, you should know the drag racing world is no stranger to such output values.

Running this kind of turbo setup obviously makes one a victim of torque lag, which is why this Toyota is fitted with a rolling anti-lag system. The list of technical goodies also includes delicious pieces such as a sequential transmission.

The gearbox is the kind you expect to find on a racecar, which brings us to the idea that this owner has installed all the right parts to turn his MR2 into a track star. Here's to hoping he does take his sweet ride off the streets someday.
