Modding a VW Golf R is not exactly cheap. First, you have to buy the car, which starts from over €40,000. And if you want the big numbers, you've got to spend at least half as much.
This particular drag racer takes things to unusual extremes. Golf specialists HGP have stopped at 480 horsepower for the 2-liter turbo. But even though it's still a four-cylinder, this hatchback is said to have 640 HP, more than a Lamborghini Huracan and over twice the factory output.

Luckily, its rival came prepared. We're not dealing with a stock Porsche 911 Turbo either, though that would have been pretty interesting. Instead, its engine has been modified by Gosha Turbo Tech and is now making 900 horsepower.

And just to prove that the owner has a lot of money, he also installed an expensive Stinger GTR body kit from famed Russian tuners Topcar. It covers the 911 in carbon fiber intakes and wings, making it look like the supercar that it really should be. We don't know the cost, but the package has got to be at least €20,000. But you can't put a price on turning up to the track and being untouchable. Well... you can, and it's pretty high, but you get the idea.

On the day, the Turbo's best trap speed was 278.63 km/h, and in the same heat where it went up against the Golf R, it posted a 275 km/h speed with a time of 16.929 seconds. Meanwhile, the Golf did a 20.269-second half-mile, which is also very fast. The head-start doesn't impact these numbers in any way.

It would have been nice to see another car of this caliber going up against the Porsche. God knows we've seen our fair share of powerful Nissan GT-Rs and AMGs on this very runway over the past couple of months.
