Supercars aren't built with drag racing as their top priority and yet their velocity-friendly nature means they excel at this. Well, there's one contemporary machine that stands out in a particular way and we're referring to the McLaren 720S.
The Woking missile has quickly earned itself the reputation of the supercar that doesn't ever lose a drag race.

To date, the best 1/4-mile time of a McLaren 720S sits at 9.9 seconds, while an unit that simply used a set of tire warmers before its run managed to deliver a 9.7s (no, the thing didn't pack any mods).

As you can imagine, the said run caused quite a stir in the drag racing community, simply because it allowed the 720S to one-up the all-mighty McLaren P1, with the latter requiring 9.8 seconds to play the 1,320-feet sprint.

Nevertheless, the fact that the stock incarnation of the machine is so good at the sprinting game doesn't mean all the owners will leave it in stock form. And we can now talk about the potential of a tuned McLaren 720S.

The toy we have here packs a custom exhaust and an ECU tune, with these pushing the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that occupies the middle section of the machine to 900 hp.

Well, the beast didn't fail to deliver, playing the quarter-mile game in 9.6 seconds at over 144 mph. And thanks to the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, we can check out the adventure. Note that the clip also shows the Brit battling another modded machine, namely a Porsche 911 Turbo S belonging to the 991 generation.

Truth be told, the McLaren tuning market isn't all that rich, but we'll certainly get to see the said engine becoming even more muscular and we can't wait to see the drag strip results of such gym trips. Meanwhile, here's a sprinting fight between the 720S and the Senna.
