The Mustang might have been born in the United States, but it managed to get inside the hearts of many automotive enthusiasts from all over the world. And we all know that people in the Land Down Under are quite obsessed with going fast in anything on wheels. So it did not come as a surprise when we saw Youtuber Clay Wong getting behind the wheel of a beefed-up 2017 Ford Mustang GT.
Although Aussie laws are quite severe on people who resort to any kind of foolish driving on public roads, that doesn't stop petrolheads in their tracks. They keep on building their cars, driving them on the streets and on the racetrack, and sharing those cars with the rest of the world makes it all even better. Wayne is the owner of this ProGTP Mustang, and when he first bought the car, he already wanted to have it racing down the quarter-mile (402 m).

An early test of the vehicle, back in June of 2019, with just some minor mods done to it, revealed an output of around 400 horsepower, which was clearly not enough for someone looking for a single-digit run at the drag strip. After just several months, a Stage 2, D-1X Procharger was fitted to the car, alongside a series of other upgrades. This time around, the results were quite impressive, with 753 horsepower being developed with the help of 16 psi (1.1 bars) of boost.

The car was fitted with Forgestar F14 drag wheels, wrapped in 275/40 R17 Mickey Thompson ET S/S drag radials. And so Wayne was back at the racetrack, looking to break that 10-second barrier. After several runs, he managed to achieve a personal best of 9.88 seconds over the quarter-mile (402 m) with an exit speed of 142.7 mph (229.6 kph).

Although some modifications have been done to the interior, including a 4-point roll-cage and 5-point harness, the gearbox used in this vehicle is still the factory 6-speed automatic. This car is still street legal and driven to and from the track, so comfort is still an important feature for the moment. Well, at least until the owner decides to take things to the next level and finish a run in less than 9 seconds.

The reviewer is visibly excited to drive the Mustang, noting the idea that "I've yet to drive a muscle car from this generation." He does get on the throttle several times throughout the video, and he is genuinely excited like any kid would be when he gets to play with a new, special toy. I guess it's time we go over the Mustang classifieds again, that's if you don't already own one.
