As is the case with the new-age 86, Toyota's original AE86 initially had a hard time getting over its underpowered nature. Nevertheless, this so-called issue brought tons of benefits, as purists could stick to the handling part of the deal while tuners would see their business flourishing by exploiting the rich potential of the platform.
To this day, AE86 Toyotas taken to the gym never cease to show up from time to time, and we're here to give you the latest example of that. We're referring to the Hachi-Roku in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which comes with a monstrous 880 hp output. At the rear wheels.
Built by Florida-based KAB Custom, this compact go-fast machine started its tuning life a few years ago, as an all-motor development (you know how much JDM fans love built naturally aspirated AE86 units). After all, an F22 motor that had probably been lifted of an S2000 should've been enough to turn this senior sportscar into a bit of a rocket.
One thing led to another and the whole build went turbo. After having gone through various stages of development, the little Toyota that could (bite your Supra's head off) ended up in the current form.
High-revving fans shouldn't fret, though, as the engine can now rev to 9,500 rpm, which means it climbs even higher than in atmospheric state.
Nevertheless, the greatest challenge we see here is the one that's not mentioned in the clip, namely the road connection part - the "we caught some air" bit doesn't count here. You see, this is a boost beast that spends plenty of time on the street, so the road holding aspects are crucial. Curios about the boost level? 33 lbs is your answer.
P.S.: Perhaps that Jamaican symbol adorning the rear-view mirror helped with setting up the handling.
