850 HP Trophy Truck Races 10,000 HP Nitro Funny Car to a Photo Finish

Having two very powerful cars (well, one is more like a rocket on wheels, but more on that later) and two very talented people to drive them is the recipe for a great video, as this clip from Snap-on Tools demonstrates during each of its twelve minutes.

Two-time Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon and six-time off-road racing champion Bryce Menzies are two people specializing in winning competitions, but the nature of these races could not be more different and still take place on Earth.

One of them drives ridiculously powerful vehicles in a straight line in races that rarely last for more than four seconds. The other has a tuned (read "completely modified") Ford pickup truck that he bashes along a dirt track filled with jumps and obstacles.

They do have a few things in common, though, and one of them is the passion for things with wheels and engines. Another is a healthy dose of ambition, something this video will demonstrate once again if their record of trophies won wasn't enough.

Before the head-to-head race takes place, though, the two have to go through a very quick crash-course into the other man's discipline, and we start off on the drag strip where Bryce is being schooled by Cruz on the intricacies of drag racing.

The off-road champion turns out to be a very good student as he very unceremoniously beats Cruz's time, with the latter joking about the wind before admitting defeat. As you can imagine, though, they didn't use the 10,000 hp machine, but a more "modest" one featuring around 750 of them.

Then it's time for the team to travel over to the dirt track of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second part of the video where Cruz gets to drive the Pro 4 Ford truck, and even get some airtime. Everything goes smoothly until his helmet's visor falls over his eyes, blocking his view. But that turns out to be just a minor inconvenience and he resumes his fun session in the dirt.

Finally, since having two very powerful and very different vehicles in one place and leave without a one-of-a-kind drag race would have been a mortal sin, the team sets everything up for the final confrontation. The Trophy Truck against the Funny Car, head-to-head, on the drag strip.

Not exactly a fair match-up, which is why - after a test run that ended with a 10.5 seconds time - the truck was given a six-second head start. So Cruz had to wait and watch the truck eat up the tarmac with its off-road tires for six seconds before he could slam the accelerator pedal. But when he did... that was just a thing of beauty. Regardless of the result, one thing is clear: there were only winners here, and those who get to watch this must be the biggest of them all.
