John Joyce is your typical hard-working man who doesn’t stop to think about the hardships of life, and just gets on with what needs doing. After all, he’s 83 years old and is still making a living out of mowing lawns - that should say something about him.
A few months ago, his 1994 truck broke down with a faulty transmission, and the repair bills would have been too large for him to cover. And since he couldn’t give up on his source of income, John continued to serve his clients, only he now had to walk from one house to another.

Robert and Nikki Norton, on the other hand, are a newlywed couple, while Robert is also a long-time client of John’s and (at least from now on) one of his friends. Perfectly aware of the difficult times in John’s life, he and his wife started a GoFundMe account aimed at gathering enough money to help the elderly man.

As they got back from their honeymoon, the two checked the account and were amazed to find out people had donated more than $13,000 in only a few weeks’ time. That meant John didn’t receive the money to repair the transmission on his truck, he got a used Nissan pickup instead.

And since the dealer made a rebate on the car, there was enough money left to cover the insurance, plates and even buy John a Home Depot gift certificate to buy a new lawnmower. Needless to say, sentiments were flying high and it didn’t take long for the whole event to become a little mushy. Eventually, some tears were shed, but surprisingly enough, it wasn’t John who started it.

"It was super exhilarating to do a good thing for such a good man. I'm at a loss of words. I've been through a whirlwind of ups and downs the last few weeks and it's nice to culminate on a feel-good moment," Robert said while talking to PEOPLE.

I don’t know about you, but hearing about stuff like this can really make my day. Yeah, I know I’m soft, but what can I do? A hug, anybody?
