82-Year-Old Granny Hits 171 MPH in Her C5 Corvette, She Was Aiming for More

Remember the 2015 Sun Valley Road Rally, the event that saw a Bugatti Veyron trio unleashed on a closed public road? Well, those Bugs weren't the only cars making a special appearance at the event. For instance, they were accompanied by a Corvette C5 driven by an 82-year-old woman.

Meet Shirley Veine, who is far from her first Sun Valley Road Rally attendance. She is a woman who doesn’t baby her ‘Vette. Oh no. Her C5 gets driven hard at times and this was one of those occasions.

Being allowed to stretch the legs of her machine on Highway 75, in the proximity of Ketchum, ID, Shirley put the pedal to the metal, climbing as high as 171 mph (that’s 275 km/h for all you Corvette fans reading this across the pond).

"Go Granny Go"

Thanks to he attitude, Shirley is surrounded by family and friends who support her and these people have organized some sort of a fan club. They even have “Go Granny Go” t-shirts and they’re not shy about showing this to the world, as you can see on the driver’s Facebook page.

Shirley hit 171.4 mph with a strong headwind as you can see by the checkered flag blowing straight back at her. The wind also blew her passenger side window inward out of its track, Brent Rule her co-driver and mechanic (Restoration Rods) had to push back against it throughout her run. Shirley was shooting for 175 + mph, but the wind definitely held her back, all in all is was a great run,” we are told on the page.

The woman has even linked her runs to a fundraiser, with the money going to the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition. And while she hasn’t announced any plans for next year yet, we’re expecting her to take revenge on that wind.
