81-Year-Old Grandma Drives a Subaru WRX STI

The average pension in Europe ranges from 250 to 1,500 euros per month. In Poland, we’re looking at 504 euros per month. This 81-year-old woman from Poland doesn’t care about such trivial matters, though, because she owns a 300 horsepower Subaru.

Ladies and gents, put your hands together for Michalina Borowczyk-Jedrzejek, a pensioner who is enjoying the twilight years of her life behind the wheel of a rally-bred machine. According to Michalina, she has always been fascinated by fast cars. It was only after retirement that Michalina was able to indulge herself in buying such a sporty car, even though the Subaru WRX STI costs €46,000 (or $50,285).

That’s 91 average pensions, but you know what? A pension isn’t as fun as 300 horsepower sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. And yes, this grandma surely loves to change gears herself. “This car has a soul, a heart and unlike other cars, it got me hooked,” she declared to TVN Turbo. Now that's what a proper petrolhead is all about.

Michalina saved up for 13 years until she amassed enough money to make her dream come true. Before the Subaru WRX STI, the old lady wearing a fur coat owned several Opel models, a BMW, and a Mazda. The question is, does Michalina afford the higher-than-average regular maintenance fees? The answer to that is yes. Michalina inherited several apartments which she decided to give for rent instead of selling them.

Another intriguing detail about the 81-year-old grandma is that she does up to 15,000 kilometers (9,320 miles) per year, most of them by driving to and back from Czestochowa, Krakow, and Wroclaw. You can watch Michalina drive her pride and joy on the streets of Katowice by following this link. After you finish the video, take five minutes and think about what you wish for after you retire. I certainly won’t get into bingo.
