800 HP BMW M6 Drag Races 550 HP BMW M4

The two cars we’re about to see in action in the video below have each been featured on our website before but they never went at it against each other so far.

The 550 HP, heavily modified BMW M4 was seen drag racing much more powerful rivals before, like a 720 HP Corvette ZR1, or a tuned 700 HP Audi RS7. In both cases, it managed to come up on top and that was surprising.

Considering that the 3-liter biturbo engine under the bonnet is engineered to make 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque in standard guise, the increase, and HP/liter ratio this tuned version has is rather impressive. Of course, it won’t be all that reliable over the years but I don’t think the owner is too worried about that.

On the other hand, the BMW M6 it’s going up against is not that different either. Ok, it may have a bigger engine, the S63 unit used on these cars as standard, being a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 but it still has a lot of grunt to deal with.

In standard guise, the M6 has 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque to offer to the rear tires for shredding purposes. This one, though, was taken up to 800 HP in a daring display of virtuosity from the guys over at PP-Performance.

The problem with both of these cars is that they are rear-wheel drive and putting all that grunt to work is a tricky business. Lighting up the rear tires is easily achievable and that’s where the magic happens.

The two rivals at hand here may not seem like comparable competitors because of the 250 HP power difference. However, the weight factor is also important here and the M4 is, on average, around 200 kilos (441 lbs) lighter than the M6. Could that be enough for the underdog to win the battle?
