We sometimes question why Volkswagen made the Golf R as an estate too. After all, nothing amazing has ever been said about it. However, the tuning gods smile upon those who are brave in battle and reward them with humor and... fizzy drinks.
This is the second 7DOWN project, and it made its debut recently at the famous Worthersee 2K16 car gathering. How come it is the second? Because the first came in the form of a green, lowered GTI that we featured last year.

With or without Dieselgate, Volkswagen is a pretty strange company for building this. The largest car maker in Europe could have developed a rival for the Cadillac Escalade or a new V8 engine. But instead, they chose a compact wagon with sports suspension, all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2-liter engine.

Why? Because it's part of their culture. The 2.0 TSI has been famous since the launch of the Mk5 GTI. In standard form the R Variant has 300 hp, but since PP-Performance was part of the project, we believe that number is closer to 400 hp now.

As for the styling, this is pretty standard low-rider stuff. The German market representatives of Vossen, Wheelscompany 3D, hooked them up with a set of pink alloys that are shod in the appropriate tires. Air suspension is used to lower the car just enough to kiss the ground.

The exhaust system is from HG-Motorsport, while the graphics were designed by Cam Shaft.

Call it the poor man's Cadillac CTS-V Wagon or the 2-liter Audi RS6. But whatever you do, show the R Variant the respect it deserves... even though it's pink. Right now, this is the only fizzy drink can in Germany with over 300 horsepower and custom Vossen alloys, not to mention a sense of humor. Too bad the tuning gods didn't find a suitable Liberty Walk body kit to match the Rrrrrraging wagon's personality.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
