789 Cadillac Men

The closing of the 789 dealers Chrysler has already announced may spawn a salesman/woman offensive, as there are around 40,000 vehicles to be sold, as soon as possible. If they don't, within a few weeks they will start losing money. How will this be done, given that sales weren't great by this point either, nobody knows. Sales, discounts, fire sales, incentives and so on, this is what we can expect from now on.

"What'll end up happening, if a dealer wants to stay in business, they'll probably end up just selling it below cost just to get rid of it. You'll probably be able to find Chrysler vehicles perhaps at under the dealer cost," Erich Merkle, an independent auto industry analyst in Grand Rapids was quoted as saying by AP.

Why the short time? Chrysler will not back dealers' incentives beyond June 9. After that, all dealers whose cars have not been sold will not get any reimbursements on the discounts they provide.

"They're not giving us a lot of time," Michael Wolf, a Plymouth Chrysler dealer whose franchise was among those that won't be renewed was quoted as saying by the source. "They're neglecting their liability of taking new inventory. They're not taking anything back."

Some of the dealers may end up selling cars to their family, neighbors and even to the reporters which interview them. Take Keith Hollern, owner of a Dodge dealership, for instance: "They've told us that the inventory is our problem. Want to buy one? We're having a fire sale."

The tragic future of those dealers may be a God sent gift for shoppers. If one is in need of a car, this is one of the best moments to buy one, even if Chrysler's rumored 2 year bankruptcy may be a stronger deterrent than the discounts.
