The vast majority of suck-squeeze-bang-blow machines whose triple-digit output starts with a "7" are loud enough to kickstart a concert on their own. Well, the heavily massaged Volkswagen Golf R we're here to show you is one of the exceptions.
This Mk VI is one hell of a machine, with the otherworldly hatchback now packing enough power to challenge supercars and hypercars. Thanks to a complete engine compartment makeover (more on that below), the R now packs no less than 745 PS and 925 Nm (682 lb-ft) of twist, while using a reinforced version of the Audi RS3's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

When you own such a car, drag racing easily becomes the norm, as highlighted in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. The uber-compact races its fair share of extreme tuning manifestations, such as a 650 PS Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG and an SLS AMG, with the most intriguing bit about the Golf being its soundtrack, or rather lack thereof.

As we mentioned in the title, if we compare the sting of the thing to its voice, we come to the conclusion this is a submarine-style drag racer.

Under the hood of the Golf R, the factory two-liter turbo has made room for the Passat R's 3.6-liter V6. The six-pot has left its natural aspiration behind, gaining a pair of HGP R28 turbochargers, along with a ton of supporting mods.

German developer HGP Turbo, which handles the conversion, can also offer a... tamer version of the animal, which only sees the V6 unit using one turbo. The result? an output of 530 PS and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, with the setup also involving a six-speed DSG tranny.

Those of you keeping a close eye on the Euro aftermarket realm are probably familiar with these kits, but no special set of figures can prepare you for seeing the biturbo version at work.
