661 HP Twin-Turbo LSx Jeep Willys "Deathtrap" Drag Races Challenger Hellcat

Back in January, we brought you a Jeep Willys that had gone far, far down the DIY customization route, with the classic offroader having been turned into a twin-turbo rat rod.

The build is now complete, with the owner currently performing the first tests. And by that we mean heading out to the drag strip and setting up the parameters on the fly, with the Jeep going up against serious machines such as the Dodge Challenger Hellcat mentioned in the title.

While we won't tell you the outcome of the race, we can throw a little spoiler at you - out of the multiple cars this Willys raced, one did leave it trailing in its wake.

Motivation comes from a junkyard-sourced LSx, with the V8 now using a pair of massive Borg Warner turbos to breathe. Delivering a meaty 661 hp and 805 lb-ft of twist, the engine has to move around 3,000 lbs, hence the delicious sprinting performance.

OK, let's talk numbers. For now, the once-a-Jeep can pull extremely low 10s passes. And while that kind of 1,320 play is respectable, you should expect things to improve in the (near) future.

As we mentioned last month, this project was inspired by the "Deathtrap" Willys seen on the Roadkill YouTube show. The build started back in 2013, with the owner doing what many DIY guys would do - the man chose the all-eBay path to ensure he didn't blow the budget while putting the pieces of this mechanical puzzle together. As it happens with many such projects, the owner didn't intend to go this far from the very beginning.

And while we've compared the two before, it's difficult to talk about this Jeep and how its owners installed a cage after the first turbo-aided drive, without also mentioning the 1,000 hp LSX Willys whose driver never even considered a cage.
