When BMW said that their new S55 plant was going to be something ‘exceptional’ most of us smiled or frowned. Either way, nobody actually believed them. When then engine came out we were impressed but nobody would’ve gone so far as to call it ... that. Well, it seems like the Motosport engineers have been holding back when developing the new M3 and M4.
That’s because the first tuning kits out there for the new S55 plant are absolutely incredible. The amount of power that can be squeezed out of the engine bay is beyond belief and we’ve seen some rather crazy builds in the meantime.

The guys from Neuhaus Motorsport claim that they created a 650 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) BMW M4 with only an ECU tune, a new intercooler and a new exhaust system. While that seems unfathomable, they are pretty sure about their claims and said that that’s all they did to the car.

After sampling the M4 (with its stock 431 HP and 550 Nm of torque) ourselves and seeing exactly what that mill is capable of, we cannot actually imagine how one could put down all that power without turning the rear tires into a pile of smoking rubber.

In this regard, the guys claim that they fitted the Bimmer with a new suspension from KW (Variant 3) that lowers the stance and allows you to control the beast better at higher speeds. Even so, what about driving around town? Sure, you can get it in Comfort mode but you’ll still have to have a pretty light right foot...

Other changes include a set of M Performance black kidney grilles up front, new carbon fiber side mirrors, a boot lid lip and a new diffuser for the Akrapovic tailpipes that are also wearing carbon fiber.

If their claim is real and the new intercooler manages to help create such an astonishing amount of power, we’re pretty certain that this particular M4 could rival supercars.
