It's officially official now. The Nissan GT-R Nismo has been let loose, a 600 horsepower version of the legendary all-wheel drive that's been terrorizing tracks for years now.
The Nismo supercar used racing technology to secure the title of "fastest mass volume production car around the Nurburgring." This includes a reworked 3.8-liter to produce 600 PS (441 kW or 591 bhp) and 652 Nm (481 lb-ft) of torque. New high-flow turbos were derived from the GT3 race car and fitted, together with optimized individual ignition timing control for each cylinder and upgraded fuel pump.
Nissan also fitted exclusive Nismo tires created by Dunlop, custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers and a 17.3 mm hollow rear anti-roll bar.
As for the bodywork, a new set of bumpers has been carefully crafted to produce 100 kg of downforce more than the standard GT-R. Special paint colors, new Recaro seats with carbon fiber backs and other carbon-finish touches sprinkled throughout the interior make this a very special GT-R to own.
"With a 7:08.679 lap time, we can authoritatively say that the Nissan GT-R Nismo* holds the volume production car lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement," said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
The Nissan GT-R Nismo will be available in Japan in late February 2014, U.S. and Europe later in 2014. No pricing info is available at the moment, but it's not unreasonable to expect $150,000 or more.
