About a year ago, we learned that Jaguar's top engineers want their F-Type to mirror the Porsche 911 lineup. And why wouldn't they, when the 911 is the most profitable sportscar around.
Diversity is the key to doing things the German way, and the F-Type has already copied some of that. Both the coupe and roadster are now available with manual transmissions and all-wheel drive on both the V6 and V8 engines.
The next step is to make a track car, as the Jaguar is currently tuned more for having fun and showing off. For the better part of a year, a prototype has been testing on both British roads and German race tracks. Recently, it's even dawned a production body, which means the debut could happen in early 2016.
However, heavy camouflage still obscures our and your view. That's why we're showing you this rendering by Virtuel-Car, which seems to do a good job of predicting the outcome of the experiment. The F-Type SVT is not as beautiful to look at as the regular version, but the same could also be said about the 911 GT3.
To make its ultimate track tool, Jaguar is going to use its largest engine, the supercharged 5-liter V8 and tune it to over 600 horsepower. We don't know the exact power output, but torque probably won't exceed 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) because that's what the 8-speed automatic gearbox can handle.
Without a doubt, this is going to be one of the fastest Jaguars ever built, not just around a track, but also in a straight line. We expect a top speed well in excess of 186 mph (300 km/h).
Just like the Nissan GT-R Nismo, this track-focused Jaguar will cost around €150,000. When options are added, it could push close to supercar territory, but let's not forget an Audi R8 V10 plus starts at €187,400.
