56-Mile 1987 Buick Grand National Garage Find Gets First Wash in 34 Years

While American cars from the 1980s weren't that popular, the Buick Grand National has always been in style. It's a very interesting shape, plus the powertrain represents an interesting alternative to the muscle car norm. It's not a rare car, but this particular barn find is special because of its ultra-low miles.

We love a good barn find story. Technically, this is more of a garage find, though it does come with a slight hint of animal scratches and neglect. The original owner, who recently passed away, bought this 1987 car when it was brand new. His wife wanted to bring it back to its original state but decided to sell it due to her age and condition.

20,740 Buick Grand Nationals were made that year, so it's not super-rare. Still, it's worth a lot of money in this condition. The black beauty has done only 56 miles (90 km), has its original tires and fuel tank. The interior is like a time capsule from 34 years ago.

The new owner put it on a trailer and made the trip from New York City to Columbus, Ohio, an 8.5-hour journey. AMMO NYC was then tasked with cleaning and restoring the Grand National. But the process of getting this old box down a super-narrow driveway is just as entertaining to watch.

The paint is in good condition but needs a quick polish to get the swirls out. As for the cabin, it also needs a bit of TLC to get rid of spider webs and mild on the plastic parts. We also get the engine bay cleaned up, giving us a good look at the 245 horsepower 3.8-liter turbo, which Buick put together in the late 1980s. That's actually decent power for that era.

Beyond the old spit and polish, the new owner fitted a new fuel tank and battery before ultimately deciding to sell it. He says it's because of "the way things are today," but we suspect he got an offer that just couldn't be refused.
