A press statement saying 22 world debuts will take place at this year's LA Auto Show has sparked our curiosity.
They say speculation keeps the mind sharp, and the fact that Land Rover will have a brand new vehicle is tickling my rumor bone. What could it be? Why aren't they telling us?
There are only two Land Rover models that are nearing completion, so I think it has to be one of them. One is the Range Rover Long Wheelbase, the other being this Range Rover Sport RS model with more power.
The long wheelbase model should also be ready by now, but I just can't imagine them bringing it to a show like LA, where sportscars are usually predominant.
"RS" is just a nickname for the SUV based on Jaguar naming systems. Land Rover never had such an SUV before, and it could simply be called the Sport R or the Sport S.
What we do know is what's under the bonnet, a more powerful 5.0-liter engine with 550 PS, the same one used by XKR-S, XFR-S and XJR. This will make the Range Rover Sport a match for BMW's X5 M and one of the fastest SUVs ever made.
As you can see, the front bumper has undergone major changes to differentiate the sports SUV from its lesser brothers.
