550-hp Cadillac CT6-V Won't Be Sold In Europe

Priced at $58,995 excluding freight for the 2020 model year, the CT6 is available in a handful of European countries as well. And even though General Motors is one of the biggest players in the automotive industry, the German triad consisting of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S- Class has nothing to worry in regard to the American interloper.

What does come as a surprise, however, is that Cadillac doesn’t plant to bring the CT6-V sports luxury sedan to the Old Continent as a competitor to the M760Li xDrive and S 63 4Matic+ land missiles. If you do want a Caddy with the twin-turbo Blackwing V8, you’ll be disappointed to hear that the Platinum soldiers on with a V6 in this part of the world for 2020.

Cadillac Society confirmed the news with Rene Kreis, the head of public relations for the brand in Europe. While there are no plans to import the CT6-V across the Atlantic, one has to ask himself what is Cadillac even doing in Europe without a go-faster model?

Putting our sensible goggles on, it should also become apparent that the CT6-V has been developed from the start as a limited edition for U.S. customers. The first batch of 275 examples sold out in mere hours, and for the 2020 model year, it’s not clear how many Cadillac will offer.

What’s for certain is that the Blackwing with 550 horsepower and tons of torque is manufactured next to the Corvette plant in Bowling Green at a facility where the 500-horsepower version of the engine is also made for the CT6 Platinum. In both flavors, the 4.2-liter V8 is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The CT6-V has the edge, hitting 60 from a standstill in 3.8 seconds while top speed is rated at 190 miles per hour.

Firing up the U.S. configurator for the CT6 reveals that the –V costs $92,790 as opposed to $88,790 for the 2019 model year. For the sake of comparison, the CTS-V with the supercharged small-block V8 from the Corvette Z06 is still listed at $86,995.
