The cheapest Tesla Model S in the range will be the new 70D starting this month, replacing the old 60 version. Of course, with added performance also comes a bigger price tag but let’s take a closer look, shall we?
The new model will have 514 HP at its disposal, coming from two electric motors, as the D in the name suggests. Of course, the car will also be all-wheel drive, one motor powering the front axle and one the rear axle.

That’s a monstrous 134 HP more than the old model that used to have 380 HP to rely on. On top of that, the price tag increase is just $5,100, making the 70D’s sticker show just $76,170. Yes, that’s right, that’s the minimum you’re going to have to pay for a Model S.

It might seem like a lot at first but think about its performance first. The 70D accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds, an improvement of 0.7 seconds over the old 60 model. On top of that, you get more standard kit like adaptive cruise control for free.

Other changes in the range include the optional front axle motor for the 85 model that can now be ordered for an extra $5,000. That means that while the standard 85 costs $81,070, the 85D (with two motors) will be $86,070, having 376 HP at its disposal and launching to 60 in 5.2 seconds.

Of course, the P85D model is still available for the same $105,670. For that hundred grand you get a 691 HP electric car that accelerates to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds.
