50th Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept New Photos

American manufacturer GM and its Chevrolet brand released over the weekend a bunch of photos showing an anniversary version of the Stingray concept, first presented this year at the Chicago Auto Show. Some of you might know it as Sideswipe...

The car is officially called 50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept and was created as a means to honor the Stingray model designed by Bill Mitchell in 1957 and which debuted at Maryland's Marlboro Raceway on 18 April 1959.

"The Corvette Stingray Concept was developed as an internal design challenge to combine classic Corvette cues with surprisingly high-tech features, modern materials, and a striking new appearance," Adam Denison, Chevrolet Communications said in a release.

"The car is well-appointed with a clamshell hood, scissor-style doors, ergonomic seats, rear-view camera with night vision enhancement, and a high performance hybrid drive. Interactive touch controls allow the driver to customize the power and efficiency of his or her ride and share it with friends via the in-car camera system and advanced telemetrics."

The internal design challenge, as it is called by the manufacturer, may spawn a production car after all, with rumors pointing to C7 as being its direct successor. Scheduled, according to rumors, to enter production in 2012, the new 'Vette' may wear a price tag in the $35,000-$45,000 range.

Although nothing new comes from this latest Stingray news, its good to see the car one more time. Below you can see photos of both the anniversary model and the one presented in Chicago.
