500E (W124) With MEC Design Exhaust Sounds Like a Bear

Back when AMG was just one of the many German tuners for the three-pointed star brand and not actually part of Mercedes-Benz, the Stuttgart brand's answer to the BMW M5 (E34) was the Mercedes-Benz 500E (W124).

Co-developed and hand built with the help of Porsche, their Stuttgart neighbors, the 500E was powered by a five-liter V8 developing 326 hp and 480 Nm (354 lb ft) of torque.

Often called a “wolf in sheep's clothing”, the model was more than adequate to battle the last hand-built M5, the E34.

The German tuners from MEC Design are now offering a sportier exhaust for the rare 500E, and subsequent E 500, which includes a rear muffler and a middle one.

The following short video showcases how a two decades-old Mercedes-Benz 500E can sound with the help of the new exhaust system and it's not too bad, if you ask us. Some new exhaust tips would have helped the look as well, but the downwards-facing stock ones are better preserving the “sleeper” nature of the car.
