500 HP VW Caddy R Has Golf 7 R Engine and Revo Stage 3 Tune

Deliver enough packages in the Volkswagen Caddy, and you might find yourself tempted to turn one into a drag racing machine. This one was made to produce 500 horsepower by one Caddy R Gibbo (real name Stephen Gibbons).

It's clearly a labor of love. What started out as a 2006 Caddy van can be seen here keeping up with the Audi TT RS at the Santa Pod Raceway. It finishes the quarter mile race with a time of 11.72 at 116mph. Wow - 11s in a Caddy!

But how do you get a Caddy to produce that much power? Well, this mechanic took it upon himself to install the latest Volkswagen hardware. He took the complete powertrain out of a Golf 7 R. That includes a 300 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo and its accompanying all-wheel-drive system.

Obviously, it wasn't as easy as you think. All the old wiring had to be pulled out and replaced because the old 1.9 TDI didn't system wasn't cooperating. Fuel lines, brakes prop shafts and the gearbox - everything had to go. The 2.0-liter turbo engine is also running Revo stage 3 with modified exhaust and air intake.

The Typ 2K Caddy shares 50% of its parts with the Golf 5 and old Touran. It's actually still in production for some emerging markets. The quickest Caddy in the world is probably Ian Birch's twin-engined monster with two Audi S3 20VT units pushing out a Lamborghini Aventador's worth.

This is a total sleeper though. Other than some cool R-like paint, refreshed interior and big wheels, it looks like your average van. But when word gets out about this monster, it won't be able to secure a sneaky drag race.

A lot of this van love seems to be happening in Britain. We remember how Top Gear famously drove one with a Jaguar AJ-series 4.2-liter supercharged V8. Perhaps it all started with the legendary Ford Transit getaway vans being faster than the pursuing police cars. Or they just like the shape of bread loafs on wheels over there!
