50 Years Anniversary Celebrated With New Toyota Corolla and Levin at Beijing Auto Show

It’s been 50 years since Toyota opened up in China with the Crown model back in 1964 and this milestone calls for a special anniversary. Which already begun as Toyota unveiled the new Corolla and special Levin model at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

With the reveal of the two models, Toyota executive vice president Yasumori Ihara explained that he wants to make Toyota vehicles more attractive to Chinese customers, thus explaining why they brought the Levin version.

“Though my first name, Yasumori, means conservative, my strategy for China is anything but. In fact, we think our strategy is quite innovative, and will result in great things for Toyota’s future in China,” said Yasumori.

The unveiled 2014 Toyota Corolla is pretty much the same model offered throughout Europe, while the Levin version will be the upscale version. Along with some interior amenities, that haven’t been detailed but we suppose there will certainly be included in the pack, the Levin also gets recognized through a new metallic orange body color and a new front bumper and headlights which seem to have nothing in common with the European or American iterations of the model.

Moreover, Yasumori said the two models will also be available with hybrid powertrains in 2015.

"The Corolla and Levin models to be unveiled shortly will, from next year, be available as hybrid models with major hybrid components produced in China" he said

The introduction of the hybrid Corollas will also make for the first-ever built Toyota built with major hybrid components in China. The company also expects to sell over 1 million vehicles this year, up from 920,000 vehicles sold in 2013.
