The Willow Springs circuit in the US recently held a “Best of AMG” event for journalists from around the world, where all current AMG models available in the land of the free were present, along with new AMG boss Tobias Moers.
Speaking with the Aussies from Motoring, Moers pretty much spilled the beans on the future of AMG when it comes to the ratio of 4Matic all-wheel drive versus rear-wheel drive models.
His main argument for more all-wheel drive models were the sales numbers in countries where both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drove versions are being offered.
”It [the adoption of AWD] depends on the segment,” Moers told Motoring. “We have certain markets where we have both cars [rear and AWD E 63] available… and the take rate is more than 90 per cent. So we get our answer out of the customers.”
When asked about the current incompatibility of 4Matic and right-hand drive, the AMG boss sounded pretty sure when he said that future generations of the should most likely address that issue, saying that Mercedes-Benz can't “do that mistake twice.” A driver switchable awd/rwd system would probably please everyone, if you ask us...
